Press Release - Approves limit of cess from 15% to 25% on Motor vehicles- 30 August 2017

The Union Cabinet approves promulgation of an Ordinance to suitably amend the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Act, 2017

Author notes-

⇛Existing ceiling to levy CESS on motor vehicle is 15% 

⇛Cabinet approves by using Ordinance to increase this limit from 15% to 25%

The Motor vehicle which are covered in the category are - 

• motor vehicles for transport of not more than thirteen persons, including the driver [falling under sub-headings 8702 10, 8702 20, 8702 30 or 8702 90]; and
• motor vehicles falling under headings 8703. 

Since this is just to increase the ceiling to charge CESS from 15% to 25% and all related notification will be issued once GST COUNCIL meeting would take place.
